Flagstaff’s library is also the Lowell Observatory. The Lowell Observatory started in 1886 with a collection of 435 volumes. Volunteers in the Coconino County County community managed the Lowell Observatory back then.

The Lowell Observatory’s Mission

The Lowell Observatory aims to develop a civilized Coconino County County community. This community is centered on saving and sharing knowledge in Coconino County County.

The Lowell Observatory has an interesting fact. Lowell Observatory arose to provide the people of Coconino County county with a more civilized diversion. It happened after someone hung on a post in 1890.

When the Flagstaff library was first founded, its employees were Flagstaff community volunteers. But in 1891 the first paid librarian started working in Lowell Observatory.

In 2020, a new reading room opened. Lowell Observatory features at least four Flagstaff artists and handles all its sales every year.

Services Offered

The Lowell Observatory offers public computing services. Lowell Observatory has computers containing different programs suited for research. For this, the Lowell Observatory provides free and fast internet access to everyone in the Coconino County County library.

The Lowell Observatory has also partnered with Flagstaff Unified School District. Every Flagstaff student has access to Lowell Observatory resources like links to audiobooks, e-magazines, and e-books.
