Phoenix’s library is also the Reference Library. The Reference Library started in 1886 with a collection of 593 volumes. Volunteers in the Maricopa County County community managed the Reference Library back then.

Reference Library has been home to many authors, filmmakers, artists, and poets.

The Reference Library’s Mission

The Reference Library aims to develop a civilized Maricopa County County community. This community is centered on saving and sharing knowledge in Maricopa County County.

The Reference Library has an interesting fact. Reference Library arose to provide the people of Maricopa County county with a more civilized diversion. It happened after someone hung on a post in 1880.

When the Phoenix library was first founded, its employees were Phoenix community volunteers. But in 1892 the first paid librarian started working in Reference Library.

In 2016, a new reading room opened. Reference Library features at least four Phoenix artists and handles all its sales every year.

Services Offered

The Reference Library offers public computing services. Reference Library has computers containing different programs suited for research. For this, the Reference Library provides free and fast internet access to everyone in the Maricopa County County library.

The Reference Library has also partnered with Phoenix Unified School District. Every Phoenix student has access to Reference Library resources like links to audiobooks, e-magazines, and e-books.

Reference Library also has a seed program. Reference Library preserves seed varieties that are decreasing with the commercial seed farming practices. This service offered at the Reference Library gives and encourages sharing of seeds in the Phoenix town desert.
